Rob Hoover, Coach
Rob Hoover received his Bachelors of Business Administration in Finance from Loyola University New Orleans in 2009, and is currently pursuing his Masters of Social Work (MSW) from Salem State University. He currently works as an inpatient mental health specialist at Mass General Brigham – Salem Hospital, helping clients in an acute medical setting.
Rob discovered boxing, jiu-jitsu, and wrestling as an adult, and has been increasingly interested in both the psychological and physical benefits of exercise. When injury and invasive surgery kept him out of work and unable to walk for 6 weeks, physical therapy and strength training helped him develop a true appreciation for the impact of physical fitness towards combating stress, anxiety, and depression. Rob draws on this experience as motivation for pursuing a career in mental health and hopes to share his passion with others.
Rob is also interested in mindfulness-based interventions, having completed an 8-week course in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) at UMass Memorial Health, while also maintaining an active meditation practice. Rob’s work with mindfulness informs his holistic approach to care, with an emphasis on acceptance, openness, and non-judgment.
When not at work, school, or the gym, Rob enjoys spending time with his dog, Pepper, in one of northern Massachusetts’s many woodlands, and is an avid cook, baker, and eater.
