Zangar Freeman, Clinician/Coach and Community+Culture Outreach Coordinator at Riser+Tread, attended Massasoit Community college, obtaining his Associates degree in Human Services. He then earned his Bachelors in Social Work (BSW) degree at Salem State University, and has been a valued member of the Riser+Tread team since 2021.

 

Prior to joining the Riser+Tread, he worked as a Transitional Advocate and Case Manager for the Old Colony YMCA Mental Health Clinic in Brockton, MA. There, he was able to work with a diverse group of clients ranging from ages 18 to 65. In this position he was responsible for creating a monthly, weekly, and daily data entry system to track the progress of each client. He also managed over 50 client cases, performed intakes and follow up meetings with clients, and made visits to correctional centers on the South Shore to assist in case management. 

Before pursuing a career in social work, Zangar was in the U.S. Marine Corps for 4 years and specialized in aviation administration and administrative programs in military training. He held the tile of Senior non-commission officer and training coordinator for Marine Attack Squadron 542, Marine Medium Tiltrotor 264, and Marine Corps Auxiliary Landing Field Bouge. During his tenure at these units, he coordinated trainings to instruct and inform all supervisors in every division, and maintained training readiness records for over 100 personnel and 3 different military units.

In addition to these positions, Zangar was also a mentor for junior Marines and created mentorship binders and leadership development plans for new Marines that were individualized by needs and goals. He also conducted monthly counseling sessions to identify professional strengths and weaknesses while maintaining a safe space to counsel Marines outside of his chain of command to help them develop skills both in their professional and personal life.
